Andy Smith Graduated from the University of Warwick with a PhD in computational chemistry using quantum mechanics methods under the joint supervision of Prof Rob Deeth at Warwick and Prof John Brown at Oxford. Andy’s thesis was entitled ‘Computational Investigations of the Heck Reaction’. Upon completion of his PhD, Andy joined Protherics/Tularik where he worked as part of a ten person computational chemistry team, primarily focusing on structure-based drug design and library design directed towards protein kinase inhibitors. Between 2004 and 2006, Andy worked for Sterix, a University of Bath spin out, where he worked on multiple hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase projects and tubulin employing a broad range of structure-based and ligand-based design techniques. In 2006 Andy joined Peakdale Molecular a small to medium sized CRO. Andy was the sole computational chemist supporting customer projects across a wide range of targets utilizing a range of techniques. Additional non-medicinal chemistry projects included printable electronics, combustion and odorants. From 2013, Andy was part of a two-person team supporting the four discovery arms of Redx - Oncology, Anti-infectives, Immunology and Crop protection (later spun out as RedAg). He employed a wide range of computational methods to meet the requirements of both bench chemists/biologists and senior management. Andy joined Cresset in 2018. He is a Senior Scientist delivering computational chemistry projects to customers from pharma, biotech, agrochem, academia, flavor and fragrance industries
